Study Background
The PODOSA study is being carried out by a research team from Edinburgh and Glasgow Universities, and will look at ways to prevent diabetes.
The research is being led by Professor Raj Bhopal (Edinburgh University) and is funded by The National Prevention Research Initiative led by the Medical Research Council.
A team of professional dietitians will work with members of the Indian and Pakistani populations in Edinburgh & Glasgow who are at high-risk of developing diabetes. The aim of the study is to encourage weight loss and increase physical activity. This will help us to find out if this approach can prevent or delay the onset of the disease.
Dietitians will involve other members of the family (those who want to) to help motivate the person at risk. Diet and physical activity will be examined, with the aim of reducing blood sugar levels, weight, and waist & hip size.
